Fabric Sourcing Checklist for Fashion Designers

Fashion designers are the professionals who are highly concerned about fabric sourcing because their works are highly sensitive. Everyone should understand that fabric sourcing is a very important part of getting a better and fashionable product. So there should be a checklist that every fashion designer must follow in order to get things done without any hassle.
Why Does Designers Need Proper Fabric?
Not to mention that designers do not make mediocre fashion products, they are only responsible for designing and making outstanding and unique dresses. For creating a piece of art they need proper fabric. There are various types of fabric and same type of fabric may fall into many categories. Even some fabric is clone of the original so it is important to understand which one should you chose and which one you should not. This also important that you get to understand the priority of fabric over another to make things look outstanding. To add further, I get to say that, fabric is the most important and a vital element for fashion products and designers bloom their designs on fabric only because there is no other substance.
First Step Toward Fabric Sourcing
Remember that before you start working on your prototype, you must order sample of fabrics so that you can have a hands on experience. You also need to be very good at understanding fabric. Well if those fabrics are new or new to you, must ask for the feature and fabric related information from the company. In order to order the sample, you must have knowledge about the fabric sourcing places and a proper strategy.
What You Need to Learn from the Manufacturers?
Before you order any lot of fabric, you must learn something about the manufacturers and their fabrics. So I am including some of the ideas unites that you need to learn before you move ahead with your projects.
Minimum and Maximum Quantity
Before you start you must learn about the manufacturers and supplier’s requirement for quantity. Every manufacturer has their own requirement for minimum quantity. So before you are ordering anything you must be sure about the how much fabric you can buy from them. Because when you are an emerging designer you don’t need a lot of fabric rather you need to purchase what you need only. So it’s very important to learn things beforehand.
Pricing
Pricing is one of the most important thing that you should consider. Most of the time this is something that you will get stuck in. You may find out that a same type of fabric is sold for a certain amount while another amount is charged in another supplier. So it is better to get the whole idea about the pricing of the fabric which you are going to take for your project or designed product.
Lead Time
You should also think about the lead time meaning, the time that manufacturer will take to supply you the fabric. Suppose you have taken order from your retail customer that you will supply on a specific time but if you are late getting fabric from your fabric sourcing supplier or manufacturers then you will be in deep trouble. So it is really important to learn about the timing even you should do little research on their authenticity.
